The valve cover gasket set seals the valve cover(s) to the cylinder head, preventing oil from seeping out along the top of the engine and potentially fouling spark plug wells and ignition components. Signs of failure include: oil visible on the outside of the valve cover or running down the side of the engine, a burning oil smell when the engine is hot, or oil fouling in the spark plug tubes causing misfires. Replace leaking valve cover gaskets to stop oil loss and protect the ignition system.
