RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) silicone is a formed-in-place gasket material used to seal mating surfaces in engines and drivetrain components, particularly where traditional gaskets are not used. Signs that fresh RTV is needed include: oil leaking from a gasketless joint on the engine, a housing cover that leaks despite being torqued correctly, or an application where the factory specification calls for sealant. Use the correct color and formulation specified for the application and allow full cure time before running the engine.
