The brake rotor is the disc that the brake pads clamp against to slow the vehicle, and it must have sufficient thickness and a smooth surface to provide safe, consistent stopping. Signs of a worn or damaged rotor include: a pulsating or vibrating brake pedal, a visible lip or groove on the rotor edge, thickness below the manufacturer's minimum specification, or deep scoring across the braking surface.
