The throttle body mounting gasket seals the connection between the throttle body and the intake manifold, preventing unmetered air from leaking into the engine and causing a lean condition. Signs of failure include: a rough idle, a check engine light with lean mixture codes, or a hissing vacuum leak sound from the throttle body area. Replace the gasket whenever the throttle body is removed to ensure an air-tight seal.
