The crankcase breather hose routes blow-by gases from the engine crankcase to the intake system, where they are burned rather than vented to atmosphere. Signs of a failing hose include: an oil smell inside the vehicle, a rough idle caused by an unmetered air leak, visible cracking or hardening of the hose, or an oil film around the intake components. Replace a cracked or clogged breather hose to maintain proper crankcase ventilation.
