Exhaust bolts secure exhaust system components together at flanges and to the exhaust manifold, and are prone to seizing and breaking due to constant heat cycling and corrosion. Signs of a problem include: an exhaust leak causing a ticking noise that is loudest on startup, broken bolt stubs visible in flange holes, or a loose exhaust section that rattles. Use new bolts with anti-seize compound during any exhaust service to prevent future breakage.
