The coil spring seat, or spring perch, is the surface on the strut or control arm where the end of the coil spring rests, and it must be smooth and properly shaped to support the spring without causing noise or misalignment. Signs of damage include: a corroded or damaged seat surface that allows the spring to slip, a rattling or clunking noise from the spring area, or a perch that has cracked or deformed. Replace a damaged spring seat to properly support the coil spring and eliminate noise.
