The valve stem core is the internal valve inside the tire's valve stem that allows air in and prevents it from escaping, and is the most fundamental part of maintaining proper tire pressure. Signs of a failing core include: a tire that slowly loses pressure with no visible puncture, a hissing sound when the cap is removed, or a core that leaks when deflection-tested with a finger. Replace a leaking valve stem core to restore a proper air-tight tire seal.
