The variable timing solenoid controls oil flow to the camshaft phaser, adjusting valve timing for optimal performance and efficiency across the RPM range in VVT-equipped engines. Signs of failure include: a check engine light with a VVT code, rough idle caused by incorrect cam timing, a rattling noise from the camshaft phaser on startup, or noticeable performance loss. Replace a faulty variable timing solenoid to restore proper variable valve timing operation.
