Gasket sealant is applied to mating surfaces to supplement or replace traditional gaskets, filling microscopic surface imperfections and providing a chemical seal against oil, coolant, and vacuum leaks. Signs that sealant is needed include: a surface that is too uneven to seal with a gasket alone, or a repair specification that calls for sealant in addition to a gasket. Use the correct type of sealant for the application and allow it to cure fully before running the engine.
