Refrigerant oil lubricates the A/C compressor internals and circulates through the system with the refrigerant, and must be the correct type and quantity for the system to function correctly and avoid compressor wear. Signs that fresh refrigerant oil is needed include: after a major A/C component replacement such as a compressor or condenser, or when moisture contamination has degraded the existing oil. Use the oil type specified for your refrigerant and system design.
