The radiator cap maintains the correct pressure in the cooling system, raising the coolant's boiling point and directing overflow coolant to the recovery tank as the system heats up. Signs of a failing cap include: coolant boiling out of the reservoir at normal operating temperature, a cap that does not hold the rated pressure when tested, or a cap that has a damaged sealing gasket. Replace the radiator cap every few years or with any major cooling system service.
