The throttle body controls the amount of air entering the engine by opening and closing a butterfly valve in response to accelerator pedal input, and must be clean and free of carbon buildup to operate accurately. Signs of failure include: a rough idle, stalling, hesitation during acceleration, a check engine light with throttle position or air flow codes, or a throttle that sticks slightly. Replace or service a failing throttle body to restore smooth, responsive engine breathing.
