The CV axle shaft transmits engine torque from the transmission or differential to the driven wheels while accommodating suspension travel and steering movement through its constant-velocity joints. Signs of failure include: a clicking or popping noise when turning, a vibration felt through the floorboard at highway speed, or grease flung onto the inside of the wheel from a torn boot. A failing CV axle can break completely and leave you unable to move - replace it at the first sign of clicking.
