The turn signal light bulb flashes to signal the driver's intent to change direction, and a failed bulb causes a fast-flash condition in the turn signal circuit. Signs of failure include: a rapid flashing rate on one side when the turn signal is activated, a turn signal indicator on the dash that flashes quickly, or a bulb that is visibly dark when the signal is engaged. Replace a burned-out turn signal bulb immediately to signal your intentions clearly to other drivers.
