Guide pin boots seal the caliper guide pins from moisture and debris, keeping the pins lubricated and free to slide so the caliper applies even pressure to both brake pads. Signs of a failed boot include: a torn or missing boot, a seized caliper that causes uneven or one-sided braking, or a guide pin that is visibly corroded or pitted. Replace the boots at every brake service to prevent costly caliper seizure.
