The crankshaft front or rear seal prevents engine oil from leaking out where the crankshaft exits the engine block, protecting the belts, clutch components, and surrounding areas from oil contamination. Signs of failure include: an oil drip or trail from the front or rear of the engine, oil fouling the serpentine belt, or oil contamination on the clutch disc. Replace a leaking crank seal before oil damages expensive downstream components.
