The oil filter cap seals a cartridge-style filter housing and must be torqued correctly to prevent leaks after an oil change. Signs of failure include: oil leaking from the top of the filter housing even after the cap is tightened, a cracked or cross-threaded cap body, or a cap that cannot be torqued to spec due to thread damage. Replace a damaged oil filter cap to ensure a leak-free filter housing seal.
