The fuel vapor leak detection pump pressurizes the evaporative emissions system to detect leaks, allowing the ECM to identify if fuel vapors are escaping from the fuel system into the atmosphere. Signs of failure include: an EVAP system check engine light, a failed emissions test related to the EVAP system, or the pump motor that is audible during its self-test but fails to generate sufficient pressure. Replace a faulty leak detection pump to restore EVAP system integrity.
