The mass air flow sensor measures the volume and density of air entering the engine, allowing the ECM to calculate the precise amount of fuel needed for efficient combustion. Signs of failure include: a check engine light with a MAF sensor code, rough idle, hesitation or stumbling during acceleration, poor fuel economy, or black smoke indicating a rich condition. Replace a contaminated or failed MAF sensor to restore accurate fuel metering.
