Valve stem oil seals prevent oil from being drawn down the valve stems and into the combustion chamber, where it would be burned and produce blue-white smoke from the exhaust. Signs of failure include: a puff of blue smoke on startup after the vehicle has sat, blue smoke when decelerating after coasting at high speed, increased oil consumption, or oil fouling on spark plugs. Replace worn valve stem seals to eliminate oil burning and restore clean combustion.
