Tie rods connect the steering rack to the steering knuckle at each front wheel, transmitting steering inputs from the rack to the wheels and allowing the suspension to move up and down independently of the steering. Signs of failure include: a clunking or loose feeling in the steering, a vehicle that wanders on the highway, uneven or accelerated front tire wear, or play detected at the tie rod joint during a suspension inspection. Replace worn tie rods before they cause a loss of steering control or destroy your front tires.
