The manual shaft seal prevents transmission fluid from leaking around the shift selector shaft where it enters the transmission case. Signs of failure include: red fluid seeping from around the gear selector linkage at the transmission, a fluid level that slowly drops, or fluid drips visible on the ground beneath the transmission selector area. Replace the seal to stop the leak and keep fluid where it belongs.
